There are all kinds of First Aid/CPR courses running at Carleton Athletics--all times of the year! It's definitely a priority here for staff. All front line staff, including those in the Fitness Centre and Cardio rooms, Welcome Centre, etc. are required to have First Aid and CPR. For more information, go to our website.
Thanks for your question,
Tracy

First aid trainings should be offered every spring, helping people like me get one. Every summer in Ontario water safety is the number one priority. I.e. the pool at Carleton has life guards who knows better first aid. It would be better if non life guards personnels know is as well. When is the next training for advanced first aid? Spring time is better.

Congratulations! What an achievement. Even more than running the race, training for a big run is so much easier if you do it with a friend or friends. Never mind the encouragement they give you, running can be mind numbing especially when you are piling on the kilometres for a half or a full marathon. Having someone to talk with as you run makes it go by so much faster!

Awesome Charlotte!! Us hibernators have to set a good example! Besides, what could be more Canadian than step dancing (except maybe skating)?!
Cheers,

I am also in the latter category - I must admit, I don't even like skating (so unCanadian...)

Last fall I signed up for stepdancing, something I haven't done since I was 10 years old. It was so much fun and felt much more challenging than 30 years ago! I was always motivated to go and I didn't miss one class from September until June. There is just something about that fiddle music...

I recently moved and have been trying to decide whether or not to continue stepdancing as it will now be a bit of a drive. I think you make a good point about planning and commitment. So if I can swing it, I will sign up again and make that part of my plan to not hibernate all winter!

Hey Andrew!
I like your thinking. Whatever way we can 1) get ourselves out there AND,2) enjoying it (like eating), is great!! Do 1) first and 2) will (eventually!) follow!

Glad I went this morning, despite the voices in my head saying no.

I like your comparison to brushing your teeth. I prefer to go a bit further and compare it to eating. Every day that I eat I feel that I should do the complimentary activity: exercise. If you start to think of it as something like eating or drinking, something you HAVE to do every day it gets easier. Who wants to go a day without eating after all? It's a good way to bring up kids to think of it in that way too so the message in ingrained for life.
