Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships

If you are a senior PhD Student or a Postdoctoral Fellow at Carleton, you might want to know about the Tri-Agency’s (SSHRC, NSERC and CIHR) Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship program.

Valued at 70K per year for each of two years, these awards are seen as the top Postdoctoral Fellowships in Canada.

Details of the eligibility criteria and terms of the award can be found at this site.

The commitment of the institution is of particular importance to the success of the candidate’s application. In fact, a unique part of this competition is “the synergy between an applicant (their individual merit and potential to launch a successful research-intensive career) and the host institution (its commitment to the research program and environment with which the applicant is to be affiliated).”

If you are interested, please contact your prospective supervisor over the summer months for help in preparing the application and Carleton’s letter of support. Your  application must be submitted on your behalf by your supervisor.

Many institutions have internal deadlines long before the November 2012 Tri-Agency deadline. Carleton University’s deadline is October 15, 2012.

Banting PDFs are not transferable between institutions and many institutions will have a pre-competitive adjudication phase. Only applications with institutional support are permitted to go forward. More information is available at this website.
