Math Matters is specially designed for first-year students entering programs at Carleton with a math component.

- business and economics students
- engineering students
- science and mathematics students
Schedule
The schedule for Math Matters is now available!
Is Math Matters for you?
Over the course of the week, you will have the opportunity to revisit and review key math concepts related to your field, learn from a university math instructor, get tips on studying math in university and strategies for success and meet new people. Through Math Matters, we hope to ease the transition to university-level math by covering and reviewing topics like:
- algebra (basic algebra, intervals, and simplifying algebraic expressions);
- equations (solving equations and inequalities, special formulas);
- graphs;
- transcendental functions; and
- trigonometry.
We suggest that you register for Math Matters if your high school calculus grade is below 80 per cent or if high school calculus was recommended for admissions into your program but you did not take that course.
Stay in residence
We are happy to offer accommodation to students participating in the Math Matters program. Find out more.
Does math really matter?
Mathematics is a driving force behind many of today’s advancements in medicine, economics and business, science and technology. Having a solid understanding of mathematics will not only prepare you for your university career, but will help you to achieve your future goals. You will be placed in math sessions that are related to your major, helping you to understand the value of mathematics to your degree.
